DAVID WALLIAMS’ AMAAAAAZING ASSEMBLY FOR WORLD BOOK DAY!

On 2nd March, David Walliams hosted a very special and FREE schools event to celebrate World Book Day 2021!

David Walliams was in conversation with Blue Peter presenter Lindsey Russell for an AMAAAAAZING ASSEMBLY for World Book Day! Beamed directly into classrooms and living rooms around the country (both physical and virtual), EVERYONE was welcome to join in with this FREE event! It was held at 10:30am, with a catch-up screening at 4pm, so that as many people could join in as possible.

The event was a HUGE success, with thousands of people tuning in from across the country! In fact, the number of people that tuned in would have filled the seated area of Wembley Stadium – FIVE TIMES OVER!

David reflects on The Boy in the Dress, now a major musical!

The RSC musical, The Boy in the Dress opened in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre on Friday 8 November, with David Walliams’ novel becoming a fully-fledged musical for the first time, with music from Robbie Williams and Guy Chambers.

It’s been a surreal experience for David, as he didn’t think anything would come of Director Gregory Doran asking Robbie and Guy to write the music for the show: “I know Robbie and Guy a bit and I thought, well, you can ask them, I’m not going to ask, because they probably won’t want to and they’re far too busy. When they said, Robbie and Guy are on board, then I thought, yeah, well, I’ll believe it when I hear the songs. Then, when I came to a workshop and I heard 18 incredible songs, I was like, oh, this is real now, my book really is going to be a musical at the RSC with songs by Robbie Williams and Guy Chambers.”

Hay Festival welcomes David Walliams!

Hey, Hay Festival-goers! David Walliams will be taking to the stage this May in South Wales as he celebrates ten glorious years of publishing.

If you’re new to Hay Festival, it’s a fabulous event where writers, artists, academics, thinkers and performers entertain and inspire their audience to reimagine their world. Speaking to a packed audience, David Walliams will be sharing the stories behind the stories, talking about the inspiration for his best-loved characters, reading extracts from some of his favourite titles and answering questions from the audience.

He’s written quite a lot since his very first novel, The Boy in The Dress, so he’ll have no shortage of characters, plots and stories to talk about. So, there might be a mention of the characters from The World’s Worst Children series, a whiff of his inspiration for Mr Stink and perhaps a little something from his bestselling novel Bad Dad. You’ll have to wait and see!

The event is sold out, but watch this space for little snippets and photos from the event! And if you’re one of the lucky people with tickets, please drop us a line on Facebook and share your story, photos or videos from the festival.

This year’s Hay Festival will run from 24 May until 3 June in a beautiful tented village on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park in South Wales (UK). David Walliams will be at the Hay Festival Tata Tent on Saturday 26 May 2018 at 10am.
